A Crossing Patrol Guard is a vehicle traffic manager normally stationed on busy roadways to aid pedestrians or manage the movement of vehicles. They are often employed to assist around schools, events, or construction work.
Under the supervision of the designated administrator, the School Aide will be responsible for monitoring and supervising students across various campus areas. This role ensures the safety, health, and conduct of students during recess, lunch, PE, pick-up/drop-off, after-school programs, and other assigned periods. The School Aide will also assist in various non-instructional activities to support the overall functioning of the school.
Supervision Exercised:
This position does not exercise supervision over other staff members but supervises and monitors students.
Working Hours:
Availability Monday-Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. is essential. Employees can expect to work approximately 15-20 hours per week . This position is expected to continue through the end of the 2026-2027 school year. The last day of school is June 4, 2027 and employees are expected to fulfill their commitment through that date.
Examples of Essential Duties and Functions:
Student Supervision:
Monitor and supervise students in assigned areas such as the classroom, cafeteria, playground, restrooms, pick up/drop off areas, and after-school program locations to ensure student safety, appropriate behavior, and adherence to school rules.
Student Interaction:
Engage positively with students, helping to mediate conflicts, support positive behavior, and maintain a safe and respectful school environment.
Safety and Emergency Response:
Administer first aid and CPR as necessary and respond appropriately to emergency situations, ensuring student and staff safety.
Activity Facilitation:
Assist in the planning and supervision of recreational and intramural activities during lunch and other times, including setup and cleanup as needed.
Communication:
Maintain positive and professional communication with students, staff, and parents. Report any suspicious or unauthorized activities to the administrator promptly.
Record Keeping:
Keep accurate records of student attendance and activities during after-school programs. Assist with documentation and reporting as required.
Support Roles:
Assist in maintaining cleanliness and order in school facilities by performing tasks such as setting up tables, cleaning areas, and assisting with food service as needed.
School Events:
Support the school community during events, field trips, and other activities as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Student behavior management techniques. Basic public relations practices. Health and safety protocols, including first aid and CPR. Conflict resolution and crisis intervention strategies.
Ability to:
Learn, interpret, and enforce school rules, regulations, and policies. Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Maintain a calm, patient, and understanding demeanor when interacting with students. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and parents. Perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds, as required. Work independently and respond flexibly to changing situations.
Experience and Training:
Experience:
Previous experience working with elementary or middle school-aged students in an educational or recreational setting is preferred.
Training:
Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods. Ability to see and read printed materials and hear and understand speech in various environments, including classrooms and playgrounds. Physical agility to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, climbing stairs, walking, and reaching overhead.
Work Environment:
Duties are primarily performed in a school environment, both indoors and outdoors. The noise level can range from moderate to loud depending on the location and activities. This job description is subject to revision and may change as needed to meet the needs of Chico Country Day School.
