9 Required Qualifications/Certifications Holds a High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent and one of the following: Holds an Associate's (or higher) degree; or Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 hours); or Received a passing grade on the Para Pro Assessment Successful completion of the VCS' substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of the date of hire To take the ParaPro test, please contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS) directly to schedule an appointment at one of their designated test centers.
