Company DescriptionAbout KIPP Miami KIPP Miami is part of the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) national nonprofit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools educating elementary, middle and high school students. KIPP has a 25-year track record of preparing students for success in college and life. Founded in 2018, KIPP Miami operates two nonprofit charter schools in Greater Miami's Urban Core community. Ensure Safe Crossings:
Safely guide students and families across designated crosswalks and intersections during arrival (approximately 7:00-8:30 AM) and dismissal (3:00-4:00 PM, 1:00-2:00 PM on Wednesdays and half dayschedules) on school days. Maintain a visible, alert presence to make sure all pedestrians cross streets securely under your supervision. 
Traffic Control:
Use a handheld STOP sign/paddle to stop traffic when children are crossing, and clearly signal to drivers when it is safe to proceed. Direct cars, school buses, and pedestrians according to established traffic safety procedures around the campus.
Hazard Awareness:
Stay vigilant at all times and quickly recognize potentially dangerous traffic situations (such as speeding or distracted drivers). Act promptly to maintain flow of traffic and keep students safe and stop vehicles as required. 
Clear Communication:
Communicate instructions clearly and courteously to students, parents, and drivers. For example, use clear hand signals and verbal cues to tell pedestrians when to wait or cross, and politely instruct drivers as needed. Maintain calm and patience, even during heavy traffic, modeling respect and caring in all interactions. 
Team Collaboration:
Work in coordination with school staff and, if applicable, local law enforcement or crossing guard supervisors to manage the drop-off/pick-up process. You will exemplify teamwork and reliability by following the school's arrival/dismissal plan and promptly reporting any issues. This collaboration reflects our belief that outstanding teammates are everything in keeping our students safe. 
Community Engagement:
Build positive relationships with students, families, and neighbors. Greet every student and parent with a warm smile and helpful attitude, becoming a familiar, trusted presence in the community. A great crossing guard is often "the highlight of the morning" for children and parents due to their kindness and dedication. In this role, you serve not just as a safety officer but as a role model and ambassador for KIPP Miami. 
Safety Reporting:
Uphold all school, county and college safety regulations. Monitor the environment and immediately report any incidents, unsafe conditions, or unusual situations to school administrators (e.g. if a driver fails to stop, if a child has an issue on the way to school, etc.). Be prepared to act in accordance with emergency protocols and communicate with the Director of Regional Operations and Compliance about any concerns.
QualificationsEffective Communicator:
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to give clear, firm instructions while maintaining a courteous and friendly demeanor. 
Community Commitment:
A passion for working with children and contributing to the school community. This position is ideal for parents or family members of KIPP Miami students or local community members who want to be involved in the school. Familiarity with KIPP Miami's mission and values, and a desire to uphold our Heartbeat principles, will help you thrive in this role. 
Training & Certification:
Florida School Crossing Guard Certification is a plus. Candidates without certification must be willing to complete the required training program administered by Miami-Dade College
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
able to stand and walk outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions (heat, rain, etc.). Sufficient strength and mobility to move quickly in front of oncoming traffic if needed, and arm dexterity to hold up a STOP sign for several minutes at a time.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
Education & Age:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be at least 18 years old (required for school crossing guards). 
Background Check:
Ability to meet all background screening requirements for working in a Florida school. Must pass a Level 2 criminal background check (fingerprinting through
FDLE/FBI
