Job Description
This is a part-time position, assisting with school bus and student movement at school entrances or intersections. A. Abide by the "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics". B. A Supervise children crossing streets and/or intersections at his/her assigned post before and after school hours. C. Assist children in entering and leaving school property or crossing other assigned intersections, by safely entering the road and interrupting the flow of traffic. After children have cleared the road, allow the traffic to resume normal flow. D. Report to his/her supervisor violations of law which he/she observes. In cases where arrests are subsequently made, may be required to testify in court as to his/her observations. E. Attend preliminary and refresher training sessions on traffic control hand signals and proper methods for interrupting traffic flow, as assigned by the Division Commander. F. Perform other related duties, as assigned, including modified schedule or temporary re-assignment during declared emergency or activations, as determined by the Sheriff.
JOB PREREQUISITES
Must be 18 years of age or older. Have never been convicted of a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude and undergo a background check as would fulltime MCSO candidates. Possess normal visual perception in both eyes. Possess normal hearing range. Be free of any infirmities that would prevent standing or walking at least two hours per day. Demonstrate freedom of motion of upper extremities to execute arm and hand traffic signals.
NOTE:
Eye, hearing and motion demonstration exams will be performed by a certified physician chosen by the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Exams will be performed upon original employment. The cost of the exams will be borne by the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Outdoor environment, including all normal weather conditions. Requires standing or walking for one to two hours per shift. Uniforms are provided by the Agency; however they are intentionally made to look distinctly different than those worn by sworn officers. Hours of work will be split, requiring both early morning and afternoon shifts. Hazards including standing near moving traffic, requiring concentration and continuous safety practices.

Physical and dexterity requirements: Requires light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time.
Environmental hazards:
The job may risk exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibrations, fumes and/or noxious odors, and traffic.
Sensory requirements:
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception and texture perception.
