Job Description Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. The Indian River County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for School Crossing Guard. This is a part time position requiring 10 hours a week during the school year. The duties and responsibilities of a school crossing guard are to help school children cross safely by either waiting for a lapse in traffic or stopping traffic, if necessary, in order to do so. No requisite skills are required, training provided at the time of hire.
