Job Description

Position Title Crossing Guard Reports To Director of Operations Job Summary The Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe crossing of students, parents, and pedestrians at designated intersections and crosswalks before and after school. The Crossing Guard promotes pedestrian safety by directing traffic and assisting individuals in crossing streets safely while following established safety procedures and local traffic regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist students and pedestrians in safely crossing streets at designated school crossings. Monitor traffic conditions and identify safe opportunities for pedestrians to cross. Use approved safety equipment, signs, and signals to control pedestrian movement. Remain alert to potential traffic hazards and unsafe conditions. Promote and model safe pedestrian practices for students and families. Maintain a visible presence at assigned crossing locations during designated hours. Report safety concerns, traffic issues, accidents, or incidents to the appropriate supervisor. Communicate courteously and professionally with students, parents, motorists, and school staff. Follow all school, district, and local safety policies and procedures. Attend required training sessions and meetings. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to successfully complete required background checks. Previous experience working with children or in public safety is preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of pedestrian and traffic safety practices. Ability to remain alert and attentive in a busy traffic environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make quick decisions. Dependable, punctual, and professional. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to see and hear traffic and pedestrian activity clearly. Ability to lift and carry safety equipment as needed. Work Environment Work is performed outdoors near roadways and intersections. Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic noise, and vehicle exhaust. Work schedule typically includes morning and afternoon school arrival and dismissal times.
