In-School Suspension (ISS)

Building Principal or Assistant Principal I. Purpose of the Position The ISS Monitor oversees the daily operation of the In-School Suspension room, ensuring a structured, quiet, and productive environment for students who have been removed from the regular classroom setting due to disciplinary reasons. The monitor facilitates the completion of academic assignments while reinforcing the district's expectation that students treat faculty, staff, and peers with respect at all times. II.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervision & Environment:
Maintain a highly structured and quiet atmosphere conducive to independent study.
Academic Support:
Collect and distribute daily assignments from classroom teachers to ensure students stay current with their coursework. Guide and support them to remain focused on work and learning.
Policy Enforcement:
Ensure students strictly adhere to the rules outlined in the VHS Student Handbook, including policies regarding technology use, behavior, and attendance.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate attendance records and logs of student behavior, completed work, and any incidents occurring during the session.
Communication:
Coordinate with school administrators and teachers regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, or the need for additional academic materials.
Conflict De-escalation:
Employ professional communication to redirect student behavior and maintain order, adhering to the district's core values. III.
Qualifications and Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent (additional college credit or Paraprofessional Certification preferred).
Skills:
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage student behavior firmly but fairly.
Communication:
Proficiency in using digital communication tools and online application/tracking systems.

Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding student disciplinary records and personally identifiable information as required by district policy. IV.
