GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, responsible for ensuring the safe crossing of City streets for school students.SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises no supervision.IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Work under the potential hazard of heavy traffic. Report to the assigned crossing location at designated times. Oversee school students while monitoring traffic to identify a safe crossing opportunity. Physically occupy a crosswalk while school students cross the street.OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Safe work practices as well as safety measures associated with directing traffic and pedestrians. Principles and practices used in interacting effectively with the public.Skill to:
Demonstrate vision, hearing, and related reflexes necessary to perform job duties.Ability to:
Learn, interpret, and apply pertinent traffic laws. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Act quickly and calmly in emergencies. Engage with the public in a tactful and effective manner. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.
