Position Information Recruitment/Posting Title Center Director - Rutgers Noise Technical Assistance Program Department Environmental Science Salary Details $65,000 - $75,000 Offer Information The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. The Director of the Rutgers Noise Technical Assistance Center ( RNTAC ) will teach training courses that confer New Jersey State Certification to local and county environmental health professionals, law enforcement, consultants, and other stakeholders. The Director will also provide technical assistance on community noise issues to New Jersey state, county, and municipal agencies, as well as to members of the public. Upon request, the RNTAC and its Director also provide customized noise enforcement courses and field exercises to agencies and communities outside New Jersey. Position Status Part Time Posting Number 26FA0568 Posting Open Date 06/08/2026 Posting Close Date Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Masters degree in an applied scientific field or an equivalent combination of related experience. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Specific duties include: Deliver lectures for Community Noise Enforcement Certification and Recertification courses (New Jersey), quarterly.
  • Conduct field exercise sections on campus (20 students per section) for all Certification and Recertification students quarterly, including rain dates.
  • Deliver lecture(s) for Octave Band Analysis course (New Jersey) annually.
  • Grade all field exams (the forms used in live enforcement investigations) with complete and constructive feedback for return to investigators with their course certificates, schedule remedial sessions if appropriate.
  • Out-of-State Community Noise Enforcement Certification and Recertification courses - develop customized course, including customized course manual, deliver lectures virtually, (as requested, typically 3-5 per annum).
  • Travel to and conduct on-site half-day customized field exercises for Out-of-State Certification and Recertification courses (as requested, typically 3-5 per annum).
  • Coordinate with Office of Continuing Professional Education ( OCPE ) on all front and back office issues regarding course administration.
  • Provide technical assistance to: noise investigators; local, county and state agencies (in particular, NJDEP ); industry; and residents.
  • On-demand availability to noise investigators for timely assistance in ongoing field investigations.
  • Serve as Rutgers' liaison at New Jersey Noise Control Council monthly meetings.
  • Regularly update New Jersey course manual in consultation with NJDEP (typically 1-2x per annum), arrange for printing and shipping of manuals to course registrants.
  • Prepare documentation for NJDEP Noise Grant, and assist with shepherding through Rutgers' and NJDEP's systems, working with grant PI and others.
  • Work with OCPE to prepare records for and participate in annual NJDEP audit of Noise Grant.
The current Director of RNTAC will provide training and mentorship to ensure a successful transition. Within 2-3 years, the role is expected to expand to include Directorship of the Rutgers Air Pollution Training Program, forming a new full-time position with benefits as Director of the Rutgers Air and Noise Training Programs.
