Job Description

Fire Captain 217 5th Street, Monett, MO 65708 $65,632 a year - Full-time $65,632 a year - Full-time The City of Monett is accepting applications for the role of Fire Captain to serve our municipality. We are located in a growing area of Southwest Missouri, with a residential population of just under 10,000 and a daytime workforce population of about 15,000 due to our unique blend of Commerce and Industry within our City. We are seeking to hire a passionate individual who can contribute their knowledge and expertise in Fire Services and will bring experience of leading and training teams of Firefighters. The Captain role is responsible for performing duties related to firefighting, fire prevention, responding to emergency medical services and rescue work while creating a productive environment for shift members and cultivating positive community relationships while maintaining professional representation of the City of Monett. The rate of pay for this non-exempt hourly position is approximately $65,632 annually (calculated and paid as straight time plus scheduled overtime).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS
Responsible for daily shift operations, fire apparatus and personnel management of assigned shift, including station reports, crew training and administrative record keeping. Commands and coordinates employees responding to emergencies and alarms for fires, hazardous chemicals and medical incidents by assessing situations and directing deployment of personnel and equipment. Assigns and reviews work and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel. Ensure staff are properly trained to utilize various equipment such as hoses, extrication tools, hydrants, truck panels, firefighting apparatus and systems to ensure efficiency. Ensure equipment is properly tested on a scheduled basis to ensure proper function. Coordinate with Supervisor/Department Head on any concerns or deficiencies. Conduct in-service training, drills and physical fitness testing or training programs to maintain required level of knowledge and skills proficiency. Perform pre-fire planning activities including identifying City hydrant locations, touring and studying businesses for physical layout, possible hazards, location of water sources, potential for life loss, etc. Utilize proper PPE required for each job or task. Investigate fire incidents to determine origin and cause and coordinate with law enforcement agencies. Utilizes Incident Command System (ICS) to manage emergency incidents, including implementing and assuming command until relieved by a senior officer by securing the area, setting up operations, safety, and staging emergency medical areas to facilitate the efficient, effective, and safe deployment of staff and equipment and ensure that the emergency scene is controlled as quickly and effectively as possible. Maintains and cleans Fire Department equipment, buildings and grounds. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by your direct supervisor. Follow City of Monett policies and procedures and support the City's mission and standards of ethics. Regular and predictable attendance is required to ensure all duties are completed in a timely fashion.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Internal candidates must have no less than five (5) years of fire service experience with Monett Fire Department and no less than three (3) years as a company officer. External candidates must have no less than six (6) years of fire service experience and a minimum of three (3) years' experience as company officer or equivalent, with a career department and must have current Fire Officer I and Instructor I Certifications.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS
Fire Department is scheduled on a 48/96 shift rotation. This position may be requested to assist in response to emergencies and emergency operations during off-duty times.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGULATIONS
Must possess current Fire Officer I and Fire Instructor I certifications (which include certifications of Fire I &II). Must possess current CPR certification or obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Must possess current Hazardous Materials Response Awareness and Hazardous Materials Response Technician certifications through Missouri Division of Fire Safety 80-hour course or through Missouri Emergency Response 80-hour Course (MERC). Must possess current Incident Command Systems training courses (ICS- 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800). Valid Class F Standard Driver's License with acceptable driving record. Must successfully complete required periodic refresher training courses and maintain required certifications.

$65,632.00 per year
