Job Description

LOCATION OF POSITION
: Department of Fire-Emergency Medical Services; 125 College Way Barco, NC 27917 MINIMUM
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates degree in EMS, business management, public relations, fire science or a related field, and a minimum 5 years of experience in emergency medical services, including supervisory work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Bachelor's degree preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under limited supervision, performs responsible administrative and supervisory work in planning, organizing and directing the County's emergency medical services employees and volunteer EMS personnel. Work involves organizing and directing the operation of the County's emergency medical service functions, to include preparing the annual budget for submission to the Chief, and coordinating the activities of governmental and non-governmental agencies in providing emergency medical services while assisting the nonprofit volunteer fire departments with firefighting activities. Work also involves performing personnel administration functions, providing professional development for paid and volunteer staff and monitoring the performance of the staff. Reports to the Chief.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT
: Credentialed as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic by NCOEMS as outlined in 10A
NCAC 13P
.0502 and/or able to obtain reciprocity upon hiring. Completion of additional course work and/or certification to include, at a minimum, ACLS, PALS/PEPP as determined necessary by the Chief. Must possess valid driver license and EVOC/CEVO or equivalent. Must have a minimum of a Level II Firefighter certification or equivalent. Must have Incident Command levels 100, 200, 300, and 400 and 700 and 800 certified. Must obtain PHTLS within one year of employment. Must maintain 36 hours of fire training required by the NC Department of Insurance to be eligible for state life benefits and operate fire equipment if necessary.
