Deputy Fire Marshal Summary:
Professional staff position with the El Paso County Emergency Services District #1 (EPCESD #1) - Fire Marshal's Office. An employee in this position will perform technical and inspection work assignments to ensure compliance with fire codes, NFPA standards, state and federal laws, county ordinances and related regulations that results in services consistent with
NFPA 1031
(Standards for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector & Plan Examiner). Fire inspectors within the Fire Marshal Office (FMO) division are responsible for inspecting buildings as required by fire code, and for providing consultation and information to business/building owners, architects, fire service personnel and builders regarding laws, rules, regulations and department policy relating to fire safety.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct new and existing business inspections and re-inspections in both indoor and outdoor environments, review new and existing building construction plans, may attend pre-construction and pre-predevelopment meetings when needed. Enforce the adopted fire code by EPC ESD #1 Assist with conducting fire prevention duties/assignments, community outreach, and community risk reduction programs; respond to citizens' complaints of fire code violations through research and inspection(s) and follow up, as necessary. Research and understanding of the adopted fire code, referenced codes and standards; utilization of the best principles, practices, methods, and techniques of fire inspection activities. Perform other related duties as assigned, by the Fire Marshal.

Professional and Courteous Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Employee will be required to wear appropriate PPE as supplied by the district.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; listen; stand; walk; use hands & fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with the pre-approval of the Fire Marshal. Some weekend shifts may be required.
Travel:
Maintain possession of a valid Driver's License and have a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment.

Must have access to and use of own transportation. Travel is primarily local during the business workday within an EPCESD #1 work vehicle.
Required Education and Experience:
1. High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certification. 2. Basic Fire Inspector I &II and Plans Examiner I from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) 3. Three-years' experience in emergency response and fire code enforcement. Additional experience in criminal and/or fire investigations preferred. 4.
ICS 100, 200, 700, & 800
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
1. Be in condition to perform his or her duties under physically demanding conditions. 2. Have corrected or uncorrected 20/20 vision in each eye. 3. Be able to pass a background check.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance :
Be able to pass a background check.
