Job Description

This position performs technical and clerical tasks in fire inspection, prevention, and public education; including responsibility for field enforcement of local and state fire safety codes and laws and ordinances. Work involves considerable public contact and requires the ability to deal with public relations issues in a professional, tactful and courteous manner. Makes periodic inspections of public places for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances; orders corrections of hazardous conditions, as directed Prepares and updates pre-fire plans of existing and new structures/occupancies Conducts inspections on new businesses that are applying for an occupational license Follows policies, procedures and standards for efficient and effective operation and maintenance of department operations Prepares and maintains necessary operating records; retains all information for future reference Maintains effective working relationships with businesses and the public Consults with the Assistant Fire Marshal on all fire and life safety related issues Executes and facilitates presentations for seminars and classes in conjunction with committees, associations, schools, hospitals, businesses and other institutional buildings
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Continued): Coordinates, develops, and implements Fire Prevention and assist Public Education Programs Executes and facilitates presentations for seminars and classes in conjunction with committees, associations, schools, hospitals, businesses and other institutional buildings Reviews all fire and life safety reports to include reports associated with fire alarms, fire sprinklers, fire suppression systems, generators, fire pumps, and emergency fire plans, ensuring compliance with national and state codes and ordinances Conducts Fire Plan review for construction purposes Conducts construction inspections for compliance with the most current versions of the Florida Fire Prevention Code and Florida Building Code Answers letters of inquiry and talks with visitors Performs any other related work as required or assigned
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Serves as a member of various city committees and associations, as assigned Represents the City at meetings when requested High School Diploma or G.E.D. required, and Must possess and maintain the Florida State Fire Safety Inspector I, and Valid State of Florida Driver's License with a good driving record
