Job Description

The Water Rescue Trainee will be expected to progress through the training curriculum in a determined and expeditious manner, with a goal of completing basic swift water, ice rescue, and mud rescue within 12 months. Additional training will include; water physical fitness training, team logistics, and the maintenance and upkeep of all Water Rescue assets. Water Rescue Trainees are expected to complete assigned tasks to the level of their training under direct supervision. Self-motivation, attention to detail, communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential characteristics of this position. A1 Valid operator's license required by date of hire with an acceptable driving record and criminal history. Blood Borne Pathogens and HIPAA training are required prior to initial assignment or within 10 days of hire, whichever comes first. Hazardous Communication training is required at the time of initial assignment. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical. Incident Command System classes required before being cleared to respond to calls: ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 . Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, ICS 100 and IS 700 within ninety (90) days of hire and ICS 200 and IS 800 within one (1) year of hire.

//training.fema.gov/IS/NIMS.aspx Under direct supervision, perform assigned tasks, to include but not limited to, preparing water craft, associated rescue gear, and dive equipment for deployment on scene. Inspect and care for assigned personal protective equipment, team apparatus and associated equipment. Assist in maintaining water rescue vehicles and specialized equipment to ensure compliance with Borough, State or Federal standards. Assists with routine physical inventory and maintenance of borough owned water rescue equipment. Assists with the issue and collection of Water Rescue equipment and supplies, and prepares new inventory for issuance in compliance with borough standards. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
