June 15, 2026 Responsibilities About the role This role provides advanced emergency medical care and fire suppression services to protect life, property, and public safety. You will respond to medical, fire, rescue, hazardous materials, and disaster incidents while delivering paramedic-level care and operating firefighting equipment. This position plays a critical role in emergency response and community safety. What you'll do Provide all patient care, including Advanced and Basic Life Support, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, protocols, and EMS standards Complete accurate and thorough patient medical documentation, including the Medical Ambulance Run Form (MARF), ensuring records are complete and compliant Provide direction and guidance to other crew members during emergency incidents as it relates to patient care Serve as an emergency responder for fire protection, rescue services, and hazardous materials incidents Respond to fires and emergencies with a pumper or ladder company by operating pumps, aerial ladders, and auxiliary equipment; laying and connecting hose; directing water, fog, or chemical streams; raising and climbing ladders; and using extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, and related firefighting tools Respond to emergency medical incidents such as drownings, inhalation cases, accidents, and natural or man-made disasters; remove individuals from danger and administer emergency medical care within paramedic scope and training Participate in fire drills, training classes, and continuing education in firefighting, emergency medical care, and related subjects Inspect buildings and premises for fire prevention compliance, pre-planning, and familiarization activities, and deliver public education materials Perform custodial and maintenance work to ensure readiness of apparatus, equipment, and facilities, including cleaning floors, walls, hoses, and firefighting vehicles Assist with special emergency operations such as pumping flooded basements and investigating gas leaks or smoke conditions When assigned to airport duty, respond to aircraft emergencies including hazardous landings, aircraft fires, crashes, and airport structural fires, and complete specialized aircraft firefighting and rescue training Perform related duties as required to support emergency operations QualificationsREQUIREMENTS
You must be a KCMO resident or move into the City of Kansas City within 9 months of start date. You must be 18 years of age by June 15, 2026 You must not have turned 30 years of age prior to June 15, 2026 In computing the age of a person, the total length of the time that the person has previously served as a member of the Kansas City Fire Department may be deducted from the person's actual age. You must be a high school graduate (or possess a state-issued GED/HiSET) You must possess a valid driver's license at time of application and appointment, and within 9 months of employment must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical Must possess a valid Missouri State Paramedic License or National Registered Paramedic (EMT-P) license, obtain and maintain City privileges at the Paramedic level, and obtain and maintain ambulance credentialing.
