Job Description

NOTICE OF EXAMINATION FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC CLASS I THE CITY OF AVON, OHIO PURPOSE
Public notice is hereby given by the Civil Service Commission of the City of Avon, Ohio, of an open-competitive examination to establish an eligibility list for original appointments to the position of full-time Firefighter/Paramedic in the Avon Fire Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Age :
At least eighteen (18) years of age and no older than forty (40) on date of appointment.
Education :
High School graduate or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent.
License :
A Valid Driver's license from any 1 of the 50 states in the United States. Upon consideration of employment :• Applicants will be required to 1.• Present a current strength and agility certificate from Cuyahoga Community College, or equivalent with a time of 4min:30sec or better. 2. Present a valid State of Ohio EMT P (Paramedic) certificate. 3. Present a Valid State of Ohio Firefighter 2 certificate. 4. Successfully complete a physical exam, psychological exam, and drug test.
Residency :
If appointed, within six months thereof employees are required to live in Lorain County or one of its adjoining counties, pursuant to Ordinance No. 127-07, and must continue to reside within said area during their term of employment.
APPLICATIONS
Applications must be made online via the City of Avon's website, using the following link: www.cityofavon.com/employment. No paper applications will be accepted. All documents must be provided with your application, including documents for extra points consideration, and submitted BEFORE your payment will be taken. Your application is not considered complete until the online application, all corresponding documents and application fee have been received. Your date of application will be the date your fee is processed. You will receive an email after your online application has been received, with further instructions and application fee information. The completed application and required documents must be received no later than 10:00 A.M. EST on Monday June 1, 2026 . The application fee must be received no later than 4:00 P.M. EST on Monday June 1, 2026.
EXAMINATION
Applicants are required to pay a twenty-dollar ($20.00) application fee. The fee is payable by check, money order, credit card or cash at Avon City Hall Located at 36080 Chester Rd. Avon Ohio 44011. Checks payable to The City of Avon. A passing score for the written examination is hereby set at seventy percent (70%).
TIME AND PLACE OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION
Saturday, June 6th, at 10:00 A.M. EST at Avon East Elementary, 3100 Nagel Rd. Avon, Ohio in the cafeteria. Admittance will not be allowed after the advertised starting time of the test. Applicants must present a valid driver's license to gain admission to the examination.
CREDITS:
Veterans -A of five (5) points will be added to the passing score if the applicant was in the Armed Forces of the United States of America and was honorably discharged. A copy of Form DD214 showing an Honorable Discharge must be attached to the application upon filing. Education Five (5) points will be added to the passing score of candidates with an or a field related to the position sought as approved by the Director of Public Safety (copy of certificate must be attached). Five (5) points will be added to the passing score of a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in any area. Education credit is capped at Five (5) points and is only awarded for the highest degree earned. Additional Service Credits -Ten (10) points will be awarded to the passing score of Avon's current part-time firefighter/paramedics who have completed at least one (1) year of . Municipal Employment - Five (5) points will be added to the passing score if the applicant has been continuously employed by the city of Avon for a period of at least one (1) year prior to the date of application and is still currently so employed.
NOTE:
No more than twenty (20) additional points will be added to any passing score.
