Job Description

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION FIREFIGHTER CITY OF NEW CASTLE, PA
Applications are being accepted for the position of Firefighter with the City of New Castle, PA. An application form and details of the selection process may be obtained at the City of New Castle Building, 230 N. Jefferson Street, New Castle, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
REQUIREMENTS
At the time of application, no applicant for any position in the Fire Department shall be less than eighteen (18) years of age. If hired, the new employee shall live no more than a radius of ten (10) miles from the Central Fire Station within six months after the completion of his or her probationary period. Part-time employees do not need to be a resident of the City of New Castle or live in the ten (10) mile radius. Each applicant shall have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a valid graduate equivalency diploma. Each applicant shall be medically fit for the performance of the duties of a Firefighter, be of good moral character, without criminal record, and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Completed applications must be filed in person with the Personnel Board, at the City of New Castle Building, 230 N. Jefferson St., New Castle, by 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2026. The physical agility exam will be given on Saturday, October 17, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the New Castle Central Fire Station, 10 Margaret Street, New Castle, PA. All candidates who successfully pass the physical agility exam will be given the written (online) exam at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at New Castle Senior High School, 300 E. Lincoln Avenue, New Castle, PA. Both the physical agility exam and written (online) exam must be done on Saturday, October 17, 2026. There will be no make-up test scheduled.
