Texas City, Texas Under supervision, provides service delivery in mitigation, response, control, and recovery of fire-related emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, emergency medical services, water rescue, and other emergent/non-emergent tasks necessary to protect life and property. Performs all duties inherent to the fire service and related work as required.

Essential Job Functions:

Follow all City and Department policies, directives, rules, regulations, and SOPs. Respond to fire alarms, EMS calls, water incidents, and all emergency service requests. Perform fire suppression operations in residential, commercial, industrial, and marine environments. Conduct rescue, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, and related firefighting activities. Provide pre-hospital emergency medical services at level determined by the department. Perform hazardous materials mitigation at the Technician Level. Engage in water rescue operations. Work outdoors and indoors in hazardous conditions, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, intense noise, and hostile environments. Maintain intense physical activity over prolonged periods: climbing, swimming, lifting extremely heavy objects, deploying firefighting equipment. Inspect, clean, and maintain apparatus, equipment, quarters, and grounds. Conduct safety inspections in businesses and facilities. Perform hydrant inspection and maintenance. Participate in and conduct departmental training. Participate in physical fitness training. May assume Driver/Engineer role as assigned. Maintain reliable attendance and physical fitness. Perform all duties assigned by the Fire Chief or designee. Minimum Requirements to

Perform Work:

High School Diploma or GED. Valid Texas Driver's License. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to pass: Pre-employment physical ability test. Structured interview. Medical exam. Background check. Ability to reason using technical/mechanical concepts. Ability to remain emotionally stable and technically proficient in hazardous environments. Effective interpersonal skills. Hiring preference for applicants with TCFP Fire Certification and/or EMT-P (Paramedic) at time of application. May be required to travel for training; must maintain professional appearance. Must follow state law and departmental rules.

Certificates and License Requirements:

Must have or obtain (within one-year probationary period): Basic Firefighter Certification (TCFP)

• higher levels accepted. Lack of certification at hire extends probationary period to 18 months. Emergency Medical Technician
• Paramedic (Texas DSHS).

DOT Class B CDL (minimum). TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician Certification. TCFP Marine Firefighting Basic Certification. Water Rescue Certification (department-determined level). Industrial Firefighting Certification (department-determined level). Confined Space / High Angle Rescue Certification (department-determined level). CPR Instructor Certification (AHA or equivalent).

NIMS / ICS 100, 200, 700, 800.

Any other certifications required by the department. The firefighter must maintain all certificates and licenses throughout employment.

Physical Demands:

Light to heavy work: lift up to 125 lbs occasionally. Frequent standing, sitting, running, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling. Climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, twisting. Intense prolonged physical activity in extreme environments. Swimming and heavy object movement required.

Work Environment:

Extreme temperatures (fireground, outdoor operations). Exposure to caustic substances, chemicals, hazardous materials, and contaminated environments. Respiratory hazards from smoke, dust, chemical release. Frequent physical hazards, risk of wounds, physical abuse. Vibration exposure depending on apparatus travel. High noise levels (sirens, machinery, weapons discharge).
