JOB SUMMARY
Performs highly complex (senior-level) inspection work involving inspections, compliance reviews, investigations, and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with Texas Funeral Service Commission statutes, rules, and regulations. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees in this position may establish inspection priorities, assess program effectiveness, recommend operational improvements, and provide guidance to other inspection staff.
  • This position requires extensive statewide travel of up to 80%.
Employees are required to report to the Austin office on designated workdays and as otherwise required to meet agency operational needs. .
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Conduct inspections for compliance with Texas statutes, agency rules, standards, and licensing requirements. 2. Examine permits, licenses, applications, records, and operational practices. 3. Identify violations, recommend corrective actions, and conduct follow-up inspections. 4. Prepare, organize, and maintain inspection records, reports, and supporting evidence. 5. Gather, analyze, and evaluate data to determine compliance trends and risks. 6. Conduct investigations of alleged violations and prepare investigative reports. 7. Establish priorities and methods for securing evidence during inspections and investigations. 8. Assess programs and procedures and recommend operational improvements. 9. Identify and select licensees and establishments for inspection and evaluation. 10. Provide guidance and technical assistance to agency staff and stakeholders. 11. May testify at administrative hearings or court proceedings. 12. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Associate Degree or higher from an accredited school of higher education. Additional full-time related experience may substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis. 2. One (1) year of experience working as an Inspector or in a regulatory agency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with Texas funeral service laws and regulations. • Experience conducting complex regulatory inspections or investigations. • Strong report-writing and evidence documentation skills. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case-management systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of laws, codes, standards, and regulations related to funeral service operations and licensing.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods, quality assurance principles, and evidence collection procedures.
  • Knowledge of the basic rules of evidence.
  • Skill in conducting inspections, investigations, interviews, and compliance reviews.
  • Skill in data analysis, report writing, and record maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations and apply them consistently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a complex inspection caseload.
  • Ability to oversee and provide guidance to other inspection staff.
