Job Description

Acts as an advocate for victims by performing a variety of limited investigative and clerical functions to assist with the processing of Crime Victim Compensation (CVC) applications.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
: (The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.) Solicits, organizes, and reviews information pertaining to CVC applications for the effective disposition of claims; determines eligibility of CVC claims while ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and enforcing Board policy and procedure; verifies accuracy of bills and calculates claim requests reviewed by the CVC Board; monitors related criminal case status, charges, and restitution status using Action. Performs clerical functions necessary to expedite the CVC application process including but not limited to opening new claims and monitoring existing claims for new information, composing written correspondence to crime victims and service providers, conducting routine telephone and/or email contact with crime victims and service providers, making referrals to other victim service agencies if appropriate, closing claims upon completion, tracking restitution status and requests, preparing and presenting claim requests at monthly Board meetings, and mailing checks for approved compensation. Acts as an advocate for victims to minimize the negative impact of the Criminal Justice System by educating and answering questions regarding various court processes including administrative hearings and restitution hearings. May occasionally provide court testimony in restitution hearings to represent CVC in attempt to receive money for restitution.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
: Associate's degree in Victim Services, Business, or related field; requires one-year general office experience which must include considerable public contact work, preferably in a claim-related setting, e.g. Worker's Compensation, Social Security, insurance, etc. Experience working with victims of crime is highly desirable or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment. This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
