Under the supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney and direction of the Office Manager, coordinates and administers the victim rights function of the Prosecutor's Office. Ensures that victims are notified of their rights as required by law. Responds to inquiries regarding the program, assists victims in obtaining compensation from the State, and prepares reports and billings related to the program. Ensures that victims are notified of court events pertaining to their cases. Conducts interviews to provide victims with procedural advice and emotional support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures that informational packets are sent to victims of crime to inform the victims of the charges filed and their rights under the Crime Victim's Rights Act. Provides victims with forms to complete and return if they choose to take advantage of their rights under the Law. Informs victims in writing or verbally (as delineated under the Crime Victim's Rights Act) of court dates and actions taken in the case. Ensures that statutory requirements regarding notification are fulfilled at each step during prosecution of the case. Advises victims of sentencing dates which includes providing impact statements to be completed by the victims and assists victims in preparation of such statements. Notifies victims of their rights to make a statement in writing or in person at the Sentencing and coordinates that with the Court. Assists victims in completing applications for compensation to recover some of the expenses incurred as a result of the crime. Provides victims with information that may assist in filing a claim. Serves as a liaison between the Court, insurance companies, medical institutions, employers and the victims according to State Statute. Assists victims in preparing for Court and provides support by familiarizing them with Court processes. Attends hearings with victims as requested. Schedules appointments with the Prosecuting Attorney for victims and explains Court procedures and their rights to victims. Remains abreast of Victim's Rights Legislation and makes appropriate adjustments to the program. Advises the Prosecuting Attorney of problems that may exist related to victims and works with victims and the Prosecuting Attorney should the victims be harassed or threatened. Prepares MDHHS Grant Reports and Applications for reimbursement to the County for program expenses. Refers victims to domestic violence shelters, mental health agencies and other human service agencies as appropriate. Gathers information regarding any restitution requests and relays that information to the Prosecuting Attorney. Attends and participates in meeting and conferences related to victim's rights, which may require travel. Complete the hourly requirement for training as outlined in the MDHHS Agreement. Performs other duties as directed by the Prosecuting Attorney and/or Office Manager.
