Job Description

General Description The purpose of this class is responsible for the management and docketing of criminal cases before magistrate judges. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Responsible for management of pending criminal cases and files for incarcerated defendants appearing before the magistrate court. Prepares magistrate documents and notify jail of which defendants need to be present for the magistrate setting. Prepares all documents for daily magistrate court and assist magistrate during court. Prepares and delivers pauper's oath from indigent defendants to the courts for appointment of attorney. Coordinates language interpreter for magistrate dockets. Distributes documents from magistrate court to District Attorney, District Court Administration, County Court Administration, District Clerk, and County Clerk. Maintains case files for cases pending in the magistrate court. Retrieves files and sets hearings for cases that must come back before a magistrate before jurisdiction vests in the trial court. Reviews all intoxication cases and make determination on interlock requirements. Prepares addendum to bond and present to court. Notifies District Attorney of all interlock violations while cases are in magistrate court. Required to work holidays, weekends and non-traditional hours. Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent. Requires one year of clerical or administrative support experience in a criminal justice or court environment or closely related experience.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects. The work is typically performed in an office.
