Job Description

28701 Richmond, Virginia, United States, 23219
State Corporation Commission Additional Detail Hearing Examiner Starting Salary Range:
$132,000 - $158,000 The State Corporation Commission’s (Commission) Office of Hearing Examiners seeks an experienced attorney to conduct hearings on behalf of the Commission. Virginia Code Section 12.1-31 authorizes the Commission to assign, by written order, any matter pending before it to a hearing examiner. Unless otherwise ordered, the hearing examiner conducts all further proceedings in the matter on behalf of the Commission in accordance with the Commission’s rules. In the discharge of his or her duties, the hearing examiner exercises all the adjudicatory powers possessed by the Commission. Those powers include, but are not limited to, the power to require the production of documents; schedule and conduct pre-hearing conferences; admit or exclude evidence; and rule on motions, matters of law, and procedural questions. At the conclusion of all assigned duties, the hearing examiner issues a written final report and recommendation for disposition of the matter to the Commission. Any such recommendations are advisory only, and do not preclude the Commission from taking further evidence or action. This position offers very flexible telework options and a variety of professional development opportunities.
