Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and highly motivated Law Clerk or Paralegal to join our small, dynamic law firm in Paso Robles. This role provides direct support to the firm owner and other attorneys in business and intellectual property litigation, contract work, and entertainment industry matters. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with strong legal research and drafting skills, excellent customer service abilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently with minimal supervision. Responsibilities Manage attorney calendaring, track deadlines, and ensure timely e-filing of all litigation documents in California state and federal courts. Prepare initial drafts of business contracts, entertainment industry agreements, litigation briefs, pleadings, motions, discovery requests (including requests for production and interrogatories), and responses. Conduct thorough legal research and draft memoranda using LexisNexis and other firm-provided tools. Handle new client intake calls, set up client matters in Clio, prepare and send trust deposit requests, manage e-signature requests, and support client onboarding with engagement letters and fee agreements. Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files; create chronologies, document summaries, and production logs. Summarize documents, organize exhibits, prepare trial/hearing notebooks, exhibit lists, and witness outlines. Conduct basic conflict checks for new matters and help with basic billing entries or invoice follow-up in Clio. Coordinate with opposing counsel, court clerks, process servers, court reporters, and other vendors. Assist with client communications, including collections calls for unpaid invoices and providing professional updates. Stay current on changes in relevant laws and court procedures affecting clients. Collaborate closely with the firm owner while taking ownership of assigned projects in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications Required:
3-5+ years of experience as a Law Clerk or Paralegal (preferably in business/commercial litigation or contracts). Strong legal research, writing, and drafting skills with proficiency in LexisNexis. Hands-on experience with Clio (or similar practice management software) and e-filing in California state and federal courts. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities as a self-starter. Professional customer service and communication skills, including confident phone interactions with clients. High degree of reliability and ability to work independently in a small-firm setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) with fast and accurate typing skills.
Preferred:
Paralegal certificate or Juris Doctor (JD). Familiarity with intellectual property, entertainment law (film, television, arts, media, music), employment defense, or construction matters. Experience with business contract drafting and post-judgment collections processes. Knowledge of DocuSign, trust accounting procedures, and basic billing support.
