Description:
Nature of Work, Essential Functions & KSA's Under the general direction of a department head, the law clerk intern provides support to assigned department(s) in general office or administrative tasks.
Essential Functions:
Conduct legal research and draft memoranda. Review case files, assist in preparing motions and trials. Accurately enter data into appropriate fields of database. Assist attorneys and administrative staff as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge:
Knowledge of proper English, punctuation, math, spelling and legal writing.
Skills:
Skill in the use of office equipment such as; copier, computer, fax machine, calculator, and multi- phone line system. Skill with use of Microsoft Office applications Word and Excel. Skill with legal research such as Westlaw Lexis or other legal research tools.
Abilities:
Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to deal effectively with the public. Ability to write legibly. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with supervisors, associates, peers, and the general public. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Majority of work is performed in an office environment where the physical demands require sitting for extended periods of time; frequent use of computers and standard office equipment; may work under stress of deadlines. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and to communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone. Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written materials on a computer for extended periods of time. Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and computer systems. Sufficient personal mobility and flexibility, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office setting and to sit for extended periods of time. Sufficient ability and strength to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects up to ten (10) pounds for varying distances. Training, Experience, and Qualifications Law or college student preferred. Must be honest, dependable and trustworthy. Must pass a background check. Supplemental Information / Special Requirements This position has a flexible schedule.
