Job Description
Leonard Carder, LLP, located in Oakland, is looking for attorneys with experience or interest in union labor, employment and employee benefits law, and with a demonstrated commitment to the goals of workers' rights and the labor movement. Ideal candidates should have strong research, writing and analytical skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with unions, employee benefit trust funds, and workers. Candidates with three or more years of relevant experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a hybrid position that requires in-person work in Oakland, California. For more than 80 years, Leonard Carder has aided unions and workers involved in some of the most memorable labor struggles on the West Coast and has championed workers' rights in precedent-setting litigation. We represent local and international labor unions and employee benefit plans, as well as employees in class actions, individual workers' rights cases, and law reform litigation. Associate attorneys typically handle arbitrations and administrative hearings beginning in their first year at the firm and also tackle litigation, research, writing, collective bargaining and advice work as needed in a fast-paced environment. Associate attorneys are represented by a union. Salaries range between $102,000 and $143,000 annually, depending on experience, and will increase by $5,000 across the board in July 2027. Associate attorneys are also eligible for annual bonuses, educational loan reimbursement, and an excellent benefits package. To apply, submit a letter of interest, a resume, references, and writing sample(s) to Samantha Thomas by email to SThomas@leonardcarder.com. If you graduated from law school within the past three years, please include a law school transcript as well. Leonard Carder is committed to social justice in our practice and diversity in our hiring, and we encourage applications from attorneys of color, women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals with disabilities.
