Job Summary Mattingly Cavagnaro LLP is a boutique family and matrimonial law firm located seeking a motivated law clerk to join our team. This position is ideal for a current law student, recent law school graduate, or individual with relevant legal training who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in family and matrimonial law while working directly with experienced attorneys. Our firm practices exclusively in family and matrimonial law, representing clients in divorce, child custody, child support, spousal maintenance, equitable distribution, and other Family Court matters. Our attorneys also serve as Attorneys for the Children, representing children in custody and divorce proceedings. We frequently represent high-net-worth individuals in complex matrimonial matters, providing exposure to sophisticated legal issues and litigation. This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical legal skills in a supportive, collaborative environment. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments while providing meaningful experience that complements legal education. Duties and Responsibilities Assist attorneys in preparing for court appearances, hearings, trials, mediations, and client meetings. Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on legal issues. Draft, review, and assist in responding to pleadings, motions, correspondence, and other legal documents. Assist with case management, scheduling, and calendaring. Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other legal professionals. Required Qualifications Current law student, recent law school graduate, or individual with relevant legal education or training. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong legal research and analytical abilities. Understanding of legal principles, court procedures, pleadings, and litigation processes. Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and the ability to learn new legal software. Preferred Qualities Interest in family and matrimonial law. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff. High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
