Yes Location CountyAlbany Street Address110 State Street CityAlbany StateNY Zip Code12236 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionConducts legal research and analyzes legal decisions, opinions, rulings, and memoranda by selecting principles of law and preparing digests of the points of law involved; Selects, assembles, and compiles information on statutes, rules of procedure, regulations, other legal instruments, and specific legal subjects; Maintains records and indices of law cases; Shephardizes cases and statutes using Shephard's Citations; Obtains copies of legislative bills and maintains records of the progress of proposed legislation of interest to the agency; Secures information on court sessions and calendars or on administrative hearing calendars and informs legal staff when cases will be called; Prepares preliminary drafts of agreements and resolutions, pleadings, opinions, extracts of depositions, etc.; May conduct preliminary interviews of witness; May assist in maintaining agency law library by locating or re-shelving books and adding new materials; Composes routine legal correspondence. Assist attorneys with legal research involving the Abandoned Property Law, Banking Law, Estates, Powers and Trusts Law, Surrogates Court Procedure Act, Domestic Relations Law, and Mental Hygiene Law, draft legal memoranda. Review abandoned property claims and prepare letters. Review motion papers in connection with abandoned property claims Minimum QualificationsBe currently enrolled as a full-time student at a law school recognized by the New York State Education Department. - Proficiency in Lexis Nexis/Westlaw legal research
- Advanced legal writing skills
- Strong organizational skills to manage varied workload in a timely fashion
- Careful attention to detail
- Ability to digest and analyze novel questions of law
Telecommuting:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks.
