Full Job Description Resp & Qualifications PURPOSE:
The Legal Clerk performs clerical work and legal research to support the legal team under the supervision of an attorney. The incumbent will provide support in preparing cases, managing attorney files and documents, drafting and maintaining legal documents and licenses, and ensuring compliance with court and regulatory requirements and other associated filings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs clerical and administrative duties such as managing correspondence, requesting and organizing files, locating documents and licenses, performing database searches, distributing case material, performing data entry, scheduling meetings and supporting general office operations. Organize, review, and maintain attorney files, ensuring all documents are accurate and up to date. Prepare drafts of legal documents and licenses as directed by a supervisor and/or attorneys. Conducts research on statutes, case law, and legal precedents to assist attorneys in preparing for cases. Improves job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications. Performs regulatory filings, as necessary, in order to ensure corporate licenses are timely filed and/or renewed. Coordinates with internal parties to gather information for filings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Level:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
3 years experience as a law clerk or legal assistant.
Preferred Qualifications :
Previous experience as a law clerk, legal assistant, or intern in a legal setting . Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive material and information. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Clerical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Skill in data entry with minimal errors.

10% Legal clerks may be required to travel to CareFirst office locations other than their assigned office or to attend off-site meetings or events. Office of Corporate Counsel face-to-face staff meetings may require travel to other CareFirst office locations.
Salary Range:
$41,184 - $75,504 Salary Range Disclaimer The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the work is being performed. This compensation range is specific and considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market and business consideration. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on each case's facts and circumstances, including but not limited to experience, internal equity, and location.
