Job Description

THE POSITION A
non-sworn position to allow training of Deputy Sheriffs. New hires will have Deputy Sheriff Recruit status until successful completion of the basic P.O.S.T. Police Academy. Upon graduation, recruits will be placed into the sworn position of Deputy Sheriff
I. DUTIES
Deputy Sheriff Recruits are required to be enrolled and successfully graduate from a California P.O.S.T Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
SPECIAL NOTE
Recruits are not engaged in active law enforcement and are general members of the retirement system.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must meet the same requirements as that of Deputy Sheriff except prior completion of a basic police academy is not required of this classification. A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
