EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. from an accredited institution.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Basic POST Certificate (Peace Officer Standards and Training).
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field is desirable.
  • Eight (8) years of law enforcement experience, including at least two (2) years of a management or supervisory role at the rank of Sergeant or higher, or in a position with equivalent supervisory responsibilities.
  • Proven experience with community-oriented policing in a culturally diverse community is desirable.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that meet minimum qualifications may be considered.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Must maintain P.O.S.T. physical standards, including mobility and physical strength and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull items up to 100 lbs. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle; vision to maintain firearms qualification. Must be able to read printed materials and computer screen, discern colors, and work in a night setting. Hear and speak to exchange information in person, or on the telephone. Possess dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Stand, walk, run, bend at the waist, kneel or crouch, and be able to climb a stool or ladder.
