Position Summary:
The Lieutenant at Fort Madison serves as a mid-level commissioned officer responsible for leading troops, overseeing daily operations, ensuring discipline, and supporting the mission and readiness of the unit. This position requires strong leadership, organizational ability, and a commitment to duty, and public safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise a patrol shift or assigned personnel in training, operational duties, or public demonstrations. Enforce discipline and ensure compliance with policy, safety standards, and operational protocols. Coordinate with Captains to implement strategies, orders, and administrative procedures (discipline, performance evaluations, and scheduling). Oversee the readiness and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and personnel. Mentor and evaluate subordinates; provide performance feedback and professional development. Represent the unit during inspections, public events, or ceremonial functions, as needed. Maintain records, write reports, and ensure timely communication up and down the chain of command. Enforce the policy and state laws while efficiently supervising patrol shifts.
Required Qualifications:
Time in a leadership role in law enforcement/command experience or acting experience. Minimum of 8 years of police experience with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field. Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage stress and lead in high-pressure environments. Working knowledge of law enforcement protocols, operations, and command structure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, or related field, and 10 years of law enforcement experience and 4 year supervisor experience. Specialized training in leadership, tactical operations, or crisis management.
Working Conditions:
May involve physical exertion, extended hours, and exposure to varying weather conditions. Required to wear uniforms and maintain a professional bearing. Will include weekend or holiday duties, particularly during events or operations.
Compensation:
Hourly employee with the base pay of $83,385 on a 2184-hour work year . Also, this position comes with all the extras provided with time of longevity, education, and holiday pay. commensurate with experience. Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave.
