Position Summary:
The Village of Broadview operates under the Village Trustee form of government and has a Mayor and 6 Trustees. There is a strong commitment to professional management within the organization. The Village offers a full array of municipal services, including six
Departments:
Administration, Finance, Police, Fire, Public Works, and Building. Broadview's progressive, professional staff is comprised of 82 full-time employees and 8 part-time employees. The Village seeks its next Chief of Police to lead a well-respected and professional Department. The Chief of Police is appointed by the Mayor, with concurrence of the Village Trustees, and reports to the Village Administrator. The Department has a $6 million budget and 37 employees, with 31 authorized sworn officers, including the Chief. The Department is divided into two
Divisions:
Operations and Administration, both acting under the Office of the Chief of Police. The role of the Chief of Police is to plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Police Department including crime prevention, patrol operations, criminal investigations, Village and County-wide records management systems, emergency management, and other law enforcement efforts; and to coordinate assigned activities with other Village Departments and outside agencies. The Chief of Police provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Village Administrator. The Chief is an integral part of the Village's executive leadership team, collaborating with the other Department Directors and staff on interdepartmental issues.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with major course work in police science, police administration law enforcement, management, or related disciplines. Master's degree preferred. Completion of Command Level Management Schools such as FBI, National Academy or Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command preferred. Twelve (12) years in police service and Eight (8) years of progressive supervisory experience. Completion of police training and education as required by the State of Illinois Law and an Illinois Driver's License. Successful completion of all backgrounds. Motor Vehicle Report which meets the State of Illinois guidelines.
