Requirements:
Deputies must be at least 21 years old at time of employment, have no felony or certain misdemeanor convictions, must live in Champaign County or a surrounding county, and must be physically fit for the job. Candidates must take the required testing process, which includes an entry‑level exam, interview, physical agility test, background check, psychological and medical exam, and a drug screen. Candidates must also complete all steps via the National Testing Network website.

Candidates can also take online practice tests at frontlinetest.com, schedule convenient test times (including Saturdays), and take high‑quality job simulation tests in a standardized environment.

Experience RequirementsExperienced/lateral applicants with at least one year of full‑time law enforcement experience may forego the written exam and move directly to the interview phase. These applicants may also start higher on the wage scale based on the collective bargaining agreement.
