Job Description

Job Overview The Chief of Police is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the law enforcement operations within the community. This position requires a dedicated individual with extensive experience in law enforcement, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to community safety and flexibility in schedule to support staff. The Chief of Police will develop and implement policies, manage personnel, and ensure effective policing strategies to maintain public order and safety. Responsibilities Lead and manage all police department operations, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations and department policies. Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to enhance public safety. Oversee criminal investigations, ensuring thoroughness and compliance with legal standards. Foster community relations through outreach programs and engagement initiatives. Supervise personnel, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations. Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively. Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies for joint operations and information sharing. Ensure officers are trained in essential skills such as first aid, CPR, surveillance techniques, conflict management, and animal handling. Prepare detailed reports on departmental activities, incidents, and investigations. Attends conferences and meetings to keep abreast of current trends in the field; represents the Tioga Police Department in a variety of local, county, state and other meetings. Meets with elected or appointed officials, other law enforcement officials, community and business representatives and the public on all aspects of the Department's activities. Experience Candidates should possess a strong background in law enforcement with the following skills considered essential or highly desirable: Proven leadership experience within a police department or similar organization. Proficiency in criminal investigation techniques and report writing. Experience in driving under various conditions relevant to law enforcement duties. Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Skills in conflict management to effectively resolve disputes within the community. Ability to train and supervise subordinate personnel; Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors; Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; Ability to give verbal and written instructions.

$85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
