The Sinclair Police Department operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide community policing on and surrounding Sinclair Community College campuses. The Lieutenant position is responsible for providing supervision to those tasked with providing for the safety of all individuals utilizing the main Sinclair Campus, the satellite campuses and the surrounding areas, in addition to performing the actual task. The safeguarding of the physical assets of the college is of paramount importance, as is the further enhancement of a safe working and educational environment for faculty, students, staff members, and visitors. Principal Accountabilities Primary Duties The lieutenant provides supervision of the police officer, who is the first responder to all criminal incidents, fires, hazardous material spills, injuries, illnesses and vehicular accidents, as well as any other situation which may arise. The position requires constant interaction with faculty, students and staff, other law enforcement agencies and those visiting and/or working in the Miami Valley area. The Police Lieutenant oversees the proper investigation of all criminal and/or non-criminal incidents, along with any other matter as directed by appropriate authority. Lieutenants will make Sinclair police officers available to assist other law enforcement agencies during investigations relating to Sinclair College or any other incident resulting from mutual aid activation, or other assists. Lieutenants monitor and ensure that Sinclair police officers provide a positive and a professional presence throughout the areas of their respective jurisdiction, including those identified in mutual aid agreements

Secondary Duties:

This supervisory position has the responsibility of providing first-aid and the application of CPR/AED techniques and the supervision of other department personnel who are also called upon to evaluate injuries, illnesses and to request further medical assistance when warranted Lieutenants, utilizing established crime prevention techniques, evaluate criminal incidents and statistical information to develop proactive measures to reduce criminal occurrences Be familiar with departmental and college policies, procedures, and programs The ability to supervise large or small scale operations of personnel and equipment under emergency conditions involving danger to life and property Command an Emergency Operations Center until such time that a higher rank arrives to assume control Coordinate policing with Sinclair Regional learning centers Maintain proficiency of the Clery Act and Title IX federal laws Other duties as assigned Requirements Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent with 6 years of full-time certified police officer experience Minimum of OPOTA certification, or respective state's police training certification, required. If police training certification is from another state, completion of the OPOTA certification within a timely manner required Possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and be able to diffuse volatile situations required Currently certified and maintain certification in the use of firearms (handgun, shotgun, and rifle) as mandated by the State of Ohio required Currently certified and maintain certification as required in CPR/AED Current TASER certification and maintain certification as required Current in depth knowledge of the United States Constitution, Federal, State and City laws required Proficient use of Microsoft Office required Completion of an assessment process and a panel review board required
