Job Summary The Division of Public Safety & Security (DPSS) announces the opportunity for qualified applicants to apply for the Deputy Chief of Police position on the UM-Dearborn Campus. In this position you will provide leadership, supervision, and direction for the day-to-day operations of the UM-Dearborn Department of Public Safety (DPS). You will also provide guidance to UM-Dearborn DPS in support of the DPSS mission, vision and values. In addition, you may be required to assume and exercise the duties of the Chief of Police as necessary. In this position you will provide supervision of public safety services to support the mission of the university as a partner serving to ensure a safe and secure environment while improving the quality of life for all those living, learning, working and visiting within our community. You will report directly to the University of Michigan-Dearborn Campus Chief of Police.
- This position requires the candidate to successfully pass a thorough background investigation, drug screening, psychological evaluation, and physical examination. This is a uniformed position required to maintain appearance and grooming standards in accordance with DPSS uniformed personnel dress code.
- Responsibilities
- Duties include the supervision and coordination of department supervisors and emergency management staff as well as the allocation of personnel and equipment in an efficient and effective manner to serve the UM-Dearborn community.

Additional Information All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered campus security authorities (CSA's) under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter. Currently this classification will be considered exempt in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
