Job Description

Position Overview The Laurens City Police Department is seeking qualified, motivated, and professional individuals to serve as Full-Time Police Sergeants. This leadership position is responsible for supervising, mentoring, and directing patrol officers during assigned shifts while ensuring the effective delivery of police services to the community. Sergeants are expected to lead by example, maintain accountability, enforce departmental standards, and foster a positive and professional work environment. This position plays a critical role in protecting life and property, enforcing state and local laws, supervising daily patrol operations, and building positive relationships within the community. Minimum Qualifications Must be a certified Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer in South Carolina Must possess prior law enforcement supervisory experience Minimum age of 21 years old High school diploma or GED required (college degree preferred) Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to mentor, coach, and develop subordinate officers Valid South Carolina driver's license Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation Clean criminal and disciplinary history
Compensation & Benefits Starting Salary:
$59,400 - $64,000 annually based on experience

Health, dental, and vision insurance Participation in the South Carolina State Retirement System Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave Department-issued uniforms and equipment Ongoing professional development and leadership training opportunities Key Responsibilities Supervise and mentor patrol officers during assigned shifts Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and directives Respond to major incidents and assume supervisory command responsibilities when necessary Review reports, warrants, citations, and officer documentation for accuracy and completeness Ensure officer safety and operational readiness during calls for service Conduct roll-call training and reinforce departmental expectations Monitor officer activity, productivity, and professionalism Review body-worn camera footage and officer conduct for policy compliance Conduct performance evaluations, counseling sessions, and disciplinary documentation when necessary Provide leadership during critical incidents, investigations, and emergency situations Promote ethical, lawful, and professional behavior among all personnel Maintain accountability for departmental equipment, vehicles, evidence, and shift operations Assist with community policing initiatives and public engagement efforts Foster a positive culture focused on professionalism, accountability, and teamwork Support officers through training, mentorship, and proactive leadership Leadership Expectations Sergeants are expected to lead from the front by demonstrating professionalism, initiative, accountability, and sound decision-making. Supervisors must maintain a positive work environment, eliminate workplace drama and negativity, and instill pride within the department. The position requires strong leadership abilities, effective communication skills, and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure while maintaining departmental integrity and operational efficiency. Work Schedule Applicants must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as needed.

$59,400.00 - $64,000.00 per year
