Summary:

Under general supervision, supervises Police Officers performing patrol, criminal investigations, traffic resource duties on assigned shift and non-sworn staff in Code Enforcement, records and other administrative positions. This position is on site only and not remote. The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System with a 7% employee contribution rate and a 2:1 city match. The city offers a full slate of benefits and pays 100% of the employee cost for both medical and dental insurance and 50% of the cost for dependents. Essential Job Functions:

Supervises, assigns, and evaluates the work of Police Officers and civilian employees on assigned shift. Provides information to Police Officers and assists with enforcement of laws, policies, and procedures. Assesses, assigns, and supervises field training of Police Officers. Maintains monthly activity log for Police Officers. Oversees and maintains in-car videotape systems and gathers video when needed for evidence. Investigates crime scenes, gathers evidence, and takes photographs as needed. Performs duties of Police Officer as needed, including responding to emergency and non-emergency incident calls, investigating cases, and conducting follow-up work. Conducts interviews with victims and suspects. Completes and maintains various reports and other documentation related to assigned police activities. Oversees and participates in the booking of prisoners. Fingerprints and photographs prisoners and secures prisoner property. Provides prisoner care and conducts safety checks of prison facility. Completes background investigations of job applicants for positions in the Police Department. Conducts internal affairs investigations on complaints received from citizens or personnel. Appears in City, County, or Federal courts as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of modern law enforcement and crime prevention principles and practices. Knowledge of Federal, State and City laws, codes and regulations enforcement. Knowledge of patrol and crime investigation methods and techniques. Knowledge of local law enforcement issues and problems. Knowledge of City geography and layout of major facilities. Knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software. Knowledge of equipment and tools utilized in police operations. Skill in directing police department personnel on calls for protection of life, property and crime prevention. Skill in the use of firearms and other types of police equipment. Skill in operating police motor vehicles. Skill in analyzing emergency situations quickly and accurately and taking appropriate courses of action. Skill in effective oral and written communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be: Ability to successfully pass the City of Farmersville s pre-employment screening process, including criminal background check, drug screening, and physical examination. High School Diploma or equivalent, and Three (3) years law enforcement experience including One (1) year experience in assigned unit; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a State of Texas Driver s License. Must possess an Intermediate Texas Peace Officer License. May be required to acquire additional certification.
