DEPUTY SHERIFF
PATROL The Cooke County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified and dedicated candidates for the position of Patrol Deputy. This role involves patrolling county roadways, enforcing laws, assisting the public, and responding to a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. The Patrol Deputy plays a key role in maintaining public safety and upholding the law across Cooke County.
Key Responsibilities:
Patrol county roads and neighborhoods to ensure public safety and deter criminal activity. Respond promptly to calls for service, including both emergency and non-emergency situations. Enforce traffic laws; issue warnings and citations, direct traffic, and respond to traffic collisions. Conduct DWI enforcement and investigate impaired driving incidents. Complete detailed offense and incident reports. Serve arrest warrants and conduct non-warrant arrests in both hostile and non-hostile environments. Testify in court when required. Respond to animal control-related calls. Secure and process crime scenes, collect latent prints, take photographs, mark and preserve evidence. Maintain accurate evidence chain-of-custody and submit evidence to the agency's holding facility. Serve civil process documents and conduct civil standbys. May respond to assist in SWAT situations. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Minimum 2 years of experience as a Peace Officer or in a related field; Texas Peace Officer Certification required. Valid driver's license; must obtain a Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment. Must not have any convictions for family violence. No convictions above the level of Class B misdemeanor in the last 10 years. Must not have received a Bad Conduct or Dishonorable Discharge from the military. Must pass all TCOLE-mandated physical and psychological evaluations.
Additional Requirements:
Strong communication, observation, and critical-thinking skills. Ability to act calmly and decisively under pressure. Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and respond to after-hours emergencies. Cooke County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
