Job Description

Serves under the general administrative direction of the Mayor The individual understands that position is that of a "Working Chief" Individual who demonstrates the highest level of personal and professional ethics and behavior and leads by commitment, example and ethical standards, both on and off duty Fiscally responsible manager who can balance the needs of the Department with limited financial resources of the community against other City Departments' needs Supervise Police Department employees Authority to discipline officers for infractions of department and city policies, relieve an officer from duty with and without pay and benefits, and dismiss an officer subject to appeal to the City Council Ensure all departmental personnel are current with all mandated and continuing education training Update personnel on city policies by providing a copy of each to all personnel, both paid and unpaid Have adequate knowledge of all criminal, traffic, local, and state laws Enforce all city, local, state and traffic laws Investigate all suspicious criminal activities within the City of Hawkins limits Purchase, maintain, repair, or replace police department equipment The Chief must scrupulously avoid personal involvement in political issues Benefits Vacation (after 1 year of employment) Sick leave TMRS Retirement Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage - employer paid (employee only) Longevity Pay (after 1 year of employment)
Qualifications:
Must have a current Master Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Five years experience performing work as an administrator in law enforcement agency U.S. Citizen High School Diploma or GED Valid Texas Driver s License Not convicted of a felony offense Not having been convicted of any offense involving family violence
