Official TSU Title Assistant Chief of Police Grant Title N/A Job Description Summary / TWC Summary Under general direction of the Chief of Police, serves as a chief administrative officer in the department and manages the daily operations of all Departmental units. Assist the Chief of Police in providing a safe working and learning environment for students, faculty, and visitors that arrive on campus. Essential Duties Summary Supervises, trains, and directs employees. Reviews and assesses the Department Budget. Develops and updates Department Emergency Operation Plans for the Department. Campus Safety and Student Security Assessment. Creates partnerships with various City and County agencies, and throughout the community. Department Firearms Instructor Liaison. Assists with the employment process. Develops and implements the Department promotional process. Schedules employees off days and assignments. Department Liaison for Federal Government FAMWEB. Assists with Grant and requested items. Participates in New Employee and Student Orientations. Develops and updates Department Manual and Security Standard Operating Procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. % FTE 1.0 Hiring Range $98,509.22 - $128,061.99 Education Bachelor's degree and extensive training and/or specialized advanced certification and/or licensing. Master's degree preferred.
Required Licensing/Certification Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Master Peace Officer certification. Valid Texas Driver's License. Field Training Officer Certification (FTO) Firearms Instructor Certification FBI Trilogy Award TCOLE Instructor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
Federal, State, Local and County laws. Demonstrates expert knowledge in multiple disciplines. Acts as the ultimate subject matter expert in several professional disciplines and is the "go-to" expert on principles, methods, and procedures. Requires the ability to create methods and approaches to handle unique situations. Requires experience, knowledge in various aspects of law enforcement, the ability to communicate effectively, in addition to skills related to police administration. The ability to forecast and plan, create documents. Policies, procedures, and practices. Banner and other job-related software systems. Safety guidelines. Supervisory techniques. Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications. Skill in: Detail oriented. Effective customer service. Problem-solving and decision-making. Multitasking and time management. Strong management. Work Experience Ten (10) years' experience as a Texas licensed commissioned peace officer. A minimum of five (5) years must be served at the next lower rank. Also requires a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience at the command level, preferably in a college, university, or law enforcement setting. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
