What You'll Do as a Deputy Sheriff No two days are the same—and that's what makes it exciting. As a Deputy Sheriff, you may: Supervise and ensure the safety of inmates Process and classify inmates entering the jail Maintain order and security in courtrooms as a bailiff Transport inmates securely and professionally Serve civil process and court orders Conduct searches and inspections to maintain facility security Monitor jail operations through control systems and cameras Assist with emergency response, first aid, and CPR Participate in community outreach and public safety programs Support fellow deputies and staff during critical incidents You'll rotate through assignments including jail operations, court services, civil process , and special duties—giving you broad experience and room to grow . NNSO REQUIREMENTS
Must be a citizen of the United States. Requires an acceptable background check and acceptable credit check. Meet all federal, state and local requirements to carry a firearm. Have never been dishonorably discharged from any of the armed forces of the United States. Requires a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate. The Newport News Sheriff's Office has one of the BEST Salary and Benefits packages for our Deputies and their family in Hampton Roads.
