Keep people safe inside the jail and courts Process and classify inmates Maintain order in courtrooms as a bailiff Transport inmates securely Use tech systems, radios, cameras, and databases Respond to emergencies and support your team Take part in community programs and outreach Learn real law enforcement skills that open doors for the future Every shift builds experience. Must be a citizen of the United States. Requires an acceptable background check and acceptable credit check. Meet all federal, state and local requirements to carry a firearm. Have never been dishonorably discharged from any of the armed forces of the United States. Requires a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate. The Newport News Sheriff's Office has one of the BEST Salary and Benefits packages for our Deputies and their family in Hampton Roads.
