Job Description
The purpose of this classification is to provide police protection to the citizens of Daphne, to enforce all laws established by the Criminal Code of Alabama, and to enforce City ordinances. This position is required to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays, and will be required to work night shifts with a possibility of overtime. The hourly rate for this position begins at $24.05/hour, with opportunities for additional pay based on higher education, law enforcement, and APOST certification as outlined below.

POLICE OFFICER The hiring process for the Daphne Police Department varies for applicants, depending on Certification status. Please note that our primary form of communication for each step will be via email. Certified Applicant s Step 1: Complete and Submit an Application Step 2: Interview- Interviews are held at Daphne Police Department Step 3: Background Investigation
- The background check will include a search of criminal history, driving record, and employment history. Candidates must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character and reputation. Step 4: Polygraph Examination Step 5: Conditional Job Offer
- Upon successful completion of the previous steps, a conditional offer may be extended.

- Candidates who hold an Associates degree or higher will not be required to complete this step. Candidates who do not hold and Associates degree or higher must complete a basic skills assessment. Step 4: Physical Fitness Test

physical requirements of the position. Candidates must present a valid driver's license at this test. All candidates selected to participate must pass anA.P.O.S.T.
Standard Physical Fitness Ability Test:
22 pushups in one (1) minute, 25 sit-ups in one (1) minute, and 1.5 mile run in 15.28. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations. Knowledge of constitutional case law as it applies to law enforcement. Knowledge of criminal laws, codes, ordinances, and new procedures. Knowledge of computer data entry systems and word processing applications. Skill in operating and controlling the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments. Ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. Ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in critical and/or unexpected situations involving high risk to the organization.Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by completion of Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) program; supplemented by little or no previous experience involving law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Licenses or Certifications:
Valid State of Alabama driver's license; Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification; radar, firearms, pepper spray andNCIC/ACJIC
certifications.General Qualifications:
Be at least age 21 with a high school diploma or GED; Pass a multiple choice examination, structured oral interview, polygraph examination, psychological examination, background check, physical examination, and drug screening as conditions of employment; Pass anA.P.O.S.T.
