The Public Safety Officer is responsible for the enforcement of traffic and criminal laws and parking regulations. This position is governed by law enforcement standards, state and federal laws, and agency policy.
Job Summary
Responsible for providing campus safety and security and the enforcement of traffic and criminal laws, parking regulations, and institutional policies. The position is governed by law enforcement standards, state and federal laws, and institution policy. The position reports to the Chief of Campus Police.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrolling campus to detect and prevent crimes, enforcing traffic laws and parking regulations, and identifying safety hazards and violators.
- Performing safety checks of buildings and securing buildings.
- Conducting investigations of crimes, accidents, and reporting incidents committed on campus.
- Directing traffic during periods of high density.
- Arresting violators, writing incident reports, and testifying in court as necessary.
- Receiving and investigating incident reports and complaints from students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Cooperating with city, county, and state law enforcement officials in serving warrants, apprehending individuals, and obtaining information associated with investigations.
- Monitoring security and fire panel for security and fire detection, assisting with checking the alarm systems and emergency power supply.
- Responding to alarms, calls for assistance, checking for locked or unlocked buildings and offices, as necessary, and assisting stranded motorists and others in need of assistance.
- Using tactics, as trained and equipped, in preserving the safety of citizens, oneself, and fellow officers.
