DESCRIPTION

Advanced Training Unit - Training Officer The Advanced Training Unit is currently accepting applications from sworn personnel who are interested in the position of Advanced Training Unit (ATU) Training Officer . The purpose of this assignment is to establish an eligibility list for future placement within the Advanced Training Unit. Officers interested in this position must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a sworn police officer and be off probation. Lateral officers must have at least two (2) years of experience from a previous agency, a minimum of one (1) year with the Chandler Police Department and be off probation. Applicants must be an AZPOST General Instructor . Testing process will include a panel-style oral board and a practical exercise. Successful candidates will be ranked through a competitive process, with top candidates selected to fill vacancies. Remaining successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for future Advanced Training Unit assignments. This position does not receive 5% specialty pay. Duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to: Delivering advanced, in-service training to sworn personnel Designing, coordinating, and facilitating specialized training programs aligned with departmental needs Evaluating officer performance during structured training evolutions and real-world application Providing on-the-job training, mentorship, and professional development for officers and new hires Assisting in the development and revision of training curricula and instructional materials Assisting in the development and maintenance of training programs, inventory, and equipment Supporting reorientation and skills refreshment training for officers returning to Field Operations after extended assignments Serving as a subject matter resource for best practices, policy updates, and tactical or procedural changes Training Officers assigned to the Advanced Training Unit play a critical role in ensuring departmental readiness, consistency in performance standards, and the ongoing professional development of sworn personnel.
