DESCRIPTION
The Operation Support Bureau is currently accepting applications with resumes from officers who are interested in the position of School Resource Officer . The purpose of this specialty opening is to establish a list for future openings in the unit and one current anticipated vacancy. This position requires a commitment to the assignment for a minimum of 1 full school year as established by school district calendars. If a selection to the unit is made during the school year, the officer will complete the remaining school year and the full school year following the appointment. This requirement is to adhere to Arizona Department of Education grant requirements. Officers interested in this position must have a minimum two (2) years of experience as sworn police officer and be off of probation. This is a uniform position, Monday through Friday assignment with 8-hour days. There are no paid holidays or shift differential associated with the position. The times during the day will vary with each individual school campus. Officers will use a marked patrol car for use during the school day and for campus visibility (not a take home vehicle). Officer will receive 5% specialty pay for the assignment. Officers are required to teach law related education per grant requirements and team standards. Each year they must attend annual law related education academies administered by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) and the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services (AFLSE). Officers will work under the Arizona Department of Education grant guidelines and will be responsible for attending and completing the mandated trainings to fulfill grant requirements. Officers will also be responsible for completing of daily activity logs as mandated by the ADE for grant requirements. Officers are responsible for assisting the school with all safety and security related issues, including the development and maintenance of the school's safety plan. Officers are required to work with, and for, school administrators to provide a safe learning environment within the community. Officers are also responsible for all law enforcement related functions reported on the school campus during the school day and for assisting with other school related investigations when possible. This may include, but is not limited to, taking reports and follow-up investigations that occur on campus, counseling students and parents, and traffic control/enforcement around campus. In addition, Officers will be required to participate with the coordination and instruction at the youth programs, such as the Youth Academy, Criminal Justice Week, and Wilderness Experience. Officers are also expected to assist with special unplanned school events as needed. Candidates for this position should possess a strong desire to work with students, educators, and parents. You must have a willingness to teach law-related education to students and provide in-service education to teachers and parents. Candidates should also have excellent communications skills and strong organizational skills. The selection process will include an oral board interview and past work review. An eligibility list will be established and will be effective for one year. If the testing process takes place outside the employee's normal work hours, then employees may coordinate with immediate supervisors to flex time to attend their interview/test. Overtime or comp time must be pre-approved and will only be allowed under exceptional circumstances.
