Up to $202,138 annually as a Top Step Officer with incentive pays Up to $25,000 hiring bonus for qualified lateral officers Starting salary based on years of sworn service CalPERS retirement (3% @ 55 for eligible classic members) Employer-paid medical coverage for you and your family Dental coverage for you and your family $1,400 annual uniform allowance 15 paid holidays plus 3 floating holidays Generous vacation and sick leave Paid on-duty workouts and wellness program 4/10 or 3/12.5 work schedules Premium pay opportunities including Field Training Officer, Special Response Team, Homicide, POST certificates, bilingual pay, and longevity pay Career Opportunities Berkeley officers serve in a variety of specialized assignments, including: Patrol Investigations Traffic Enforcement Youth & Family Services School Resource Officer Community Services Internal Affairs Crisis Intervention Field Training Officer Homicide Special Response Team Hostage Negotiator Firearms & Defensive Tactics Instruction Minimum Qualifications Applicants must: Have completed a California POST Basic Academy within the past three years or Possess a California POST Basic Certificate and have successfully completed probation with a California law enforcement agency within the past three years Have at least 60 college semester units Be at least 21 years of age Possess a valid California driver's license Meet California POST standards for background, medical, and psychological fitness Hiring Process Applicants must submit a completed application and supplemental questionnaire. Final candidates will complete a comprehensive background investigation, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical examination, and psychological evaluation before appointment.
