Future Salary Increases:
•June 2026 - 4.80% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.30% Market Adjustment) •June 2027 - 4.30% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.30% Market Adjustment) The Sheriff's Range Guard is responsible for ensuring adherence to County ordinances, rules and regulations concerning the Sheriff's Training Facilities and Ranges. Duties include providing information to law enforcement agencies regarding location, operations, scheduling of facilities, billing, recording all agencies and individuals use, monitoring use of the training facility/range for compliance of department safety standards, rules and regulations, performing minor facility maintenance and repair, and performing security checks on Sheriff's canine. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid Guard Registration card issued by the Bureau of Collection and Investigative Services, Department of Consumer Affairs, State of California ; AND , Possession of a valid Bureau-issued Firearms Qualification Card in order to carry an exposed firearm ; AND , One (1) year of experience as a Security Guard providing protective services to people or property and/or preventing theft of property or similar related experience in the U.S. military police, or law enforcement community providing protective services to people or property. Certifications/Registrations Possession of a valid Guard Registration card issued by the Bureau of Collection and Investigative Services, Department of Consumer Affairs, State of California is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Possession of a valid Bureau-issued Firearms Qualification Card in order to carry an exposed firearm while on duty is required and must be acquired prior to appointment and maintained throughout employment. Background Qualifications Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation which may include a truth verification examination or test. Condition Of Employment As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.
